We played hiragana lotto, then we played karuta. We played gimkit, and revisited the practice from yesterday. I taught you 6-10 in kanji, and ended with SA-SO Katakana.

We started with a hiragana warmup-- it's a replicant of what will be on part of your hiragana test. We did a wordwall practice of the katakana. Now that most of you are done the test, we went through the grammar and reading parts together. We took a few more notes on foods, and ended with a hiragana gimkit.

We started with a hiragana warmup-- it's a replicant of what will be on part of your hiragana test. We continued practicing KA-KO in katakana, then we did a conversation activity on languages. We did a quick culture reading on plain forms vs masu forms. I gave you the notes for 4.2 vocab, then we did a gimkit.

We started with me handing back the test results. The re-do will be available for Wednesday at lunch-- there is no T-Block, but I am willing to stay after that if necessary. I had you work on the rest of it while I came around and got conversation assessments from you guys.

We started with a hiragana warmup, then we did our listening assessment. We did a quick gimkit on the vocab from yesterday, then revisited the practice from yesterday. I assigned the rest of the sheet for homework, and gave you the notes for 3.5. 

It is my hope to finish up with the practice by Monday at the latest. There will be some review on the Tuesday, and we'll start our next unit on Wednesday. The unit test will be on Thursday.

We started with Kahoot, then we did our MA-MO quiz. We learned the next set of hiragana: YA, YU, YO, WA, WO (O) and N. We did some written practice on our families using the structure from our notes. We started with a listening activity on my family, then we took some notes. We played a gimkit to practice all the family vocab, then we started creating our own family trees. To end class, I had you work on MA-MO in the hiragana booklets.

We started with some hiragana practice as a warmup.

Based on the test results,  I could tell we needed to revisit KSA words... so we practiced that. 

We didn't do so well on the reading section of the test, but that WASN'T your fault-- I was asking the wrong questions. I want you to be as successful as possible for your reports, so we will be re-doing the grammar and reading section as a class on Friday. 

We looked at how to count people, and how to express age in Japanese, then we played gimkit. To end class, we looked at a traditional family picture, and discussed the similarities and differences to Canadian culture.

We talked a bit about Culture Day, and re-visited the origami balloon. I introduced the next unit, and we played a gimkit on it. We then looked at MA-MO. While you were practicing that, I had those who didn't do the time quiz on Thursday do it then.

We did a practice quiz on words that start with KSA, then we finished our poll from yesterday. We did some conversation practice with dates, then learned the days of the week. With the kanji, I am NOT expecting you to write it yet. You just need to identify it. We did some practice with dates, and ended with some HA-HO practice.

I gave you some instructions on what you could include to your letter to Nagata High (assuming you're participating), and showed you how to type in Japanese on your phone and/or computer. Thursday, October 16th 

We started with some hiragana practice for a warmup, then we did our listening quiz on school supplies. We revisited kono, sono and ano, because I feel like I did a poor job explaining that. Afterwards, we went over the answers to the worksheet from yesterday. We practiced counting the Japanese way on our fingers with the new counting systems, and ended with some conversation using kono, sono and ano.

Wednesday, October 15th

We started with listening practice on school supplies, then we revisited kono, sono and ano. We did some written practice on it, and some conversation expressing ownership. We ended with a glimpse of 2.5 .

I feel like I didn't explain kono, sono and ano very well-- so we will be revisiting that first thing tomorrow to gain clarity.

Tuesday, October 14th

We started with a review of school supplies, then did some conversation with it. We practiced NA-NO, then we looked at the importance of maintaining Japanese order in sentences (topic, time/adverb, verb). We ended with a brief intro on kono, sono and ano.

We played a BINGO game to help you review hiragana and numbers, then we did our SA-SO quiz, then we started working on TA-TO. Because next week is such a short week, I won't be quizzing this one until the week after.

Thursday, September 25th 

I am still marking the tests, plus there are a few students who need to write it still. We will talk about it next week, and go over the answers. If you were not happy with a certain section of the test, or would like to re-do the whole thing, that is an option. You get one re-do. I'm available Wednesday-Friday at lunch, and during T-Block. If those times aren't going to work, I can stay after school upon request. 

We played a Kahoot on SA-SO, then I showed you 2 kanji you could start using if you felt so include. Next, we started the second chapter. We played a gimkit to practice, then I gave you the rest of the period to work on your conversations.

We did a warmup on the vocab we've covered, then we did our first quiz. We covered some more in-depth explanation on omitting subjects, forming questions, and the significance of "sumimasen." We took notes on 1.4 vocab, then played a gimkit on it. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to get to Ka-Ko hiragana.

Thursday, September 4th 

We reviewed the 3 different forms of writing in Japanese, and how to pronounce the first 5 hiragana in the alphabet. We then did some notes on introductions, and practicing doing so. We played Gimkit for the first time, then we learned about bowing and the cultural importance. I gave you some puzzles to practice the content, then we ended with one last conversation integrating asking for a name. 

Tomorrow, we will be starting hiragana! 

 

Wednesday, September 3rd 

We did a quick review of what we discussed yesterday, and I showed you this website :) We then looked at reasons to learn Japanese. We took some notes on the different writing systems for Japanese, and I assigned you your textbooks. We got to know the layout of the book, and looked at how to read/sound out some of the characters. 

 

Tuesday, September 2nd

Today, we just started with introductions, class expectations, and the course outline. We touched on why we're here to learn Japanese, and will continue with that tomorrow morning :) ​​​
